KBDC Takes on The Windy City
In early October our design staff attended Design Chicago 2017, the Midwest’s largest design industry show at the Merchandise Mart in downtown Chicago. You might’ve read our previous, shorter blog about their trip but we thought we would give you a more in depth look inside their getaway! Here they learned about the latest design trends in residential design through various seminars and showroom displays. Not only was this a great educational experience, the trip was complete with a relaxing river boat tour of Chicago to take in the views, and many great meals were enjoyed!
There was a surplus of seminars available both days of the design conference, ranging from “The Art and Business of Hand-knotted Rugs” to “Creating the Perfect Dining Table”. There really was something for everyone! The seminars were presented by experienced and popular design professionals, including stars from HGTV such as Vern Yip and Monica Pedersen. Several registered AIA Architects were also there to give a presentation regarding what is the definition of the “iconic house” in residential architecture practice. Topics such as color, sustainability, and luxury living were common themes at the event. It was a great opportunity for our design staff to get advice and instruction from such highly experienced designers, and learn about current trends and design ideas.
The showroom displays were all very diverse and interesting featuring many luxury design products and materials. There was even a Moore & Giles Airstream trailer that acted as a mobile showroom that you could walk through featuring all of their fine leathers (see photos below). Displays ranged from textiles to furniture to entire kitchens and bathrooms! Most kitchen showrooms were in working order and served delicious refreshments.
After attending Design Chicago 2017, our design team has been revived with plenty of new ideas for your future kitchen or bathroom remodels. They have come back to Connecticut with even more design knowledge and are well aware of current and upcoming trends. Design Chicago 2017 was most definitely a success!
