5 Tips for Exterior Spring Cleaning

After a snowy winter, followed by a spring time thaw, your home’s exterior may be in the need of some TLC. Getting outside to tackle house and garden maintenance projects is the perfect way to welcome in the season. Whether your siding needs a good power washing or your grass isn’t so green, here are a few tips on how to spruce up your home’s exterior so you’re ready for the warm months ahead:

1. Gutter Maintenance

After a winter of freezing temperatures followed by a spring time thaw of melting snow, it’s important to clean out your gutters. An annual inspection will ensure that gutters will be working properly to divert water from your home’s exterior and aren’t blocked or damaged.

2. Pressure Washing

If you notice your siding is looking a little grubby, pressure washing can freshen it up. It’s important however to consult a home maintenance expert about how to properly pressure wash your home as some siding may not be able to withstand anything too powerful. While you’re at it, consider washing your deck, windows, or driveway as well.

3. Fresh Paint

If power washing doesn’t make enough of a difference, it may be time for a fresh coat of paint. Painting window and door trim, along with the front door, can make a dramatic difference if you don’t want to commit to painting your entire home.

4. Lawn Cleanup

One of the most essential parts of a spring clean-up is your lawn. Getting to work early raking, mowing, and fertilizing your lawn will ensure green grass for the summer months ahead. You may want to consider hiring a lawn care service to help you out with this.

5. Garage Cleanup

For many homeowners, the garage is more like a big cluttered closet, collecting a multitude of items over time. De cluttering and organizing by installing shelves, racks and hooks can help immensely, and get items up off of the floor. Tossing or donating unwanted items will free up space.
