3 Kitchens: Designing with Pets in Mind

Who said your furry friends can’t be incorporated into your kitchen renovation design? We’ve had several clients over the years who have requested a special spot for their pet in their new kitchen. Whether it’s pet supply storage, a feeding station, or a comfy place to rest their heads, there are many ways to keep pets in mind while designing your dream kitchen.

We featured one such project on Houzz which involved a dog feeding station. The client had two very LARGE dogs, and wanted a spot for their feeding/watering. As a dog owner myself, I thought it would be fun to incorporate their pet’s needs into the design in an innovative way. By incorporating a small console table under the window we utilized the bottom drawer as a place to conceal the food and water bowls for this two dog household. The raised height is more comfortable for these larger dogs as opposed to having to them bend their heads down to eat in bowls resting on the floor.

Another interesting take on including our four-legged friends in the kitchen was incorporated into a project we completed last year which features a built in feeding station. A wet bar area, with auxiliary sink, houses a built in feeding station below, located conveniently next to the back door. This acts as the perfect watering hole for thirsty pets after playing outside. All it needs is a set of cute bowls!

A new kitchen project that we have just finished was for a client with several pets. The homeowner requested that we include storage for pet supplies, more specifically a place to store large bags of dog food. We provided this storage by utilizing a custom rev-a-shelf pullout with a trashcan-like container where dog food can easily be poured into and stored away for quick access. Additionally, several coat hooks offer a spot to hang leashes.

Pet lovers need not compromise style for their pets! By incorporating these unique features into the kitchen design, we were inclusive to all members of the family- furry or not- while still designing a stunning space.
